We have an absolutely awesome styled shoot to share with you all today, and when I say awesome, I mean AWESOME!  Frida inspired shoot by brilliant Dubai based designer WAJIHA TARIQ .A tribute to Frida Kahlo and her colourful life.Ever since I could remember I just LOVED Frida Kahlo. Her powerful quotes her style and art. Lets have a look at this perfect women’s day shoot!

Sonia-why did you decide to become a fashion designer?

Wajiha: I actually did not. It just happened. I know people are driven by passion to design and create but I was driven by ambition to run business. I started my label around 7 years ago.
Sonia-Do you try to keep with the trends or create your own?

Wajiha: nothing is ever original really. And even though trends are fun but not everyone wants to look like a cloned copy of everyone else. So a little bit of trend but mostly just common sense, a bit of old , a bit of new; something that would keep everyone happy.
Sonia-Tell us about latest trends?

Wajiha: right now, frills, peplums are huge. Soft looks in makeup but statement dresses , jackets , pants are in.
Sonia-What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your fashion house?

Wajiha: the biggest lesson is that you cannot rely on your friends and Facebook to tell you if you are good enough for market. One needs to get out of their comfort zone and test the real market, real buyers, real retailers. Get out of the box.
Sonia-something that doesn’t go out of style?

Wajiha: what always remains classic is looking good with less. Women often try too hard with hair and makeup and outfit and accessories that they stop looking effortless. Looking effortless is the key. What every woman needs in her wardrobe is a good button down white shirt , a simple black dress, one good pair of heels (that works with most outfits) and the best affordable designer bag ( like the classic Chanel in black)
And yes, a good hair mask

Sonia-What were your inspirations for the designs you created for this shoot?

Wajiha: the inspiration was to create something wearable by most women. Nothing over the top but a simple collection that works in real life. Something classic and feminine.

Sonia-What advice would you give to aspiring fashion designers?

Wajiha: my advice to aspiring designers: make clothes for people , not for yourself. That’s the only way to get recognition and stay in business. Be humble and listen to the customer.

Sonia-wajiha as a Mom?

Wajiha: I’m a very hands off kind of mother. I don’t hitler them to finish homework or run after them to make them eat. At times it back fires too lol. I encourage free thinking and teaching compassion. Those values are important to me.
